Ludwig Hohlwein (1874 – 1949) has been described as “ the most prolific and brilliant German poster artist of the 20th century”. His style was distinctive but clearly derives from Art Deco.
This magnificent set of 12 horse racing scenes was produced circa 1930 but the costumes and other details make clear that he was depicting a scene from the 1890s. This is the third edition of the set and issued 1950 but produced in exactly the same way as the first two editions.
The individual plates are 375 x 392 mm. They are in excellent condition.
